One of my many hiking shoots, but this one produced some beautiful photos. More than that, it was one of my most peaceful. Completely absorbed in my surrounding and their beauty; oblivious to the rest of the world. Isolated from society, yet not alone at all. I hope I’ve captured that with my photos.

A while back I put together a complex system for organizing my photos and having them automagically create slideshows. I did this using Picasa and Simpleviewer and then was able to edit the xml. I also had WordPress hosted on my own server and had this there, but when I lost my server I reverted to my old wordpress pages and since these photos have been lost. So, I’m listing them out below. Enjoy!

I just ran across this slideshow that I put together a while back. It was a trip to my childhood running grounds that produced some very beautiful photos and it was like Christmas discovering them again after so long.

Well, here we are. Me & Nature together again. I so look forward to my little outings. This trip was a little bit different. I went driving in search of unexplored territory. I found a couple of great places and got some really nice photographs. I hope that you enjoy!

Fall, The Beautiful

Here are some photos from my latest trek. I really enjoyed this hike and paid more attention to the leaves and colors of fall. There are some really awesome photos in here (including a couple of self portraits that turned out nice). Again, I took all of the pictures and they have not been modified.

Is this an Omen?

About a mile from my house is a small town named Sardis that consists of two churches and a tire shop. As I was driving by the small Methodist Church one morning, as the sun was warming up and the dew was still fresh, I ran across a strange and ominous, yet at the same time, hilarious site. There was a group of Turkey Vultures gathered on top of the church to warm themselves and dry their wings in the sun. It was an interesting site to see around 20 vultures sitting a top a church and it’s steeple.

As I stopped to take the picture a older gentleman in a truck stopped to comment on the vultures and said that they had been their as long as he could remember. I commented on the oddity of it and said that I probably would not be attending the church. He laughed and then drove away with a smile on his face.

That next week when I drove by the vultures where circling above the church as people were gathering for Service. Are these people ignoring an omen, I thought… Then, as I drove in front of the church I read the bulletin that read “Pet & Animal Blessings”. I couldn’t control myself with laughter, as I thought back to a comment that a friend made about the topic, “Maybe they are Holy Roller Vultures”, she said. After seeing that sign, I thought, it may be true.

Enough rambling about the Holy Rolling Vultures. Check out some of my previous nature photos and of course the photos of the Vultures on the Church. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

1st Photo Journal Entry

Here we go with the first of many entries to come. This past Sat. I went to a park in Waxahachie, TX. I believe it is spelled Getzendaner Park. One of many things that it offers is beautiful and sometimes hidden trails throughout the surrounding forest.

I hiked for about 2mi in the woods before hitting the open and heading back around to my car. I followed the trails along the river and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and crisp morning air. It was a tad chilly, but not that bad. The shadows were amazing that day. As you can see in the slideshow, the trees here are old and beautiful. I have found more intriguing and unique trees here, than anywhere else in Tx. Even when they have fallen they still obtain tremendous beauty and remain art for the eyes.

At some point I came across a large and mysterious pipe coming out of the ground on one side of the river and going back in the ground on the other side. I’m assuming it was either water or sewage pipes. So, across I went. I stopped in the middle and sat to take some pictures and enjoy my strange position, and then I proceeded on my journey. On the other side I continued on the path until I could go no further and I had already exhausted my 2 sets of batteries. So, I headed back a little ways to where I had seen an opening and cut across to the road.

I will be adding more photos from Getzandaner Park soon. It is a wonderful park and I have lots left to explore before moving on. All images have not been modified, although I plan to use some of them. Those will be posted separately. I did adjust settings on my camera while taking pictures, though.

I have always been an “outdoorsy” person. I love being out in nature and enjoying it’s beauty. I recently had to replace my usual fitness routine of circuit training/boxing, to something a little more scaled down…jogging/hiking. I like going astray and off the path on my journeys. It’s not only exercise, but it’s refreshing and gives one time to contemplate.

I try to always take my camera with me and capture the moment. Even before my “routine” hikes I was taking sporatic ones and using the camera. I hope to include my hiking journals and all of my nature photos.
